How It Started

Twyla Shelmire Thompson is a Dallas-based interior stylist, mom of three under three, and the founder of Happy Home Dallas — a fresh, no-fuss take on interiors, organization, and seasonal styling that actually works for real life. A fifth-generation Dallasite, she and her family call the M-Streets home.

A Hockadaisy with a B.A. in Art History from Barnard College, Columbia University, Twyla got her start in the fast-paced world of magazine editorial at Harper’s Bazaar, then refined her design sensibility in the Decorative Arts department at Christie’s New York. She went on to spend a decade shaping content and strategy for fashion retail brands before turning her focus to home.

Tired of the gatekeeping and sky-high price tags in traditional interior design, Twyla set out to build something different: a service for families who want beautiful, functional spaces without the stress of limiting budgets and the all-or-nothing “installation day” mentality. From feel-good room refreshes to stylish & festive holiday touches, Twyla’s Happy Home services are designed to turn your space into a place you want to be.
